Wallabadah Battery

Energy Storage System

Wallabadah Battery Energy Storage System

Project Overview:

The Wallabadah Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be capable of providing a power/ capacity of 400MW/800MWh, providing up to 2 hours of energy storage. Located 4km north of Wallabadah, NSW, the BESS will connect to the existing transmission network, enhancing energy reliability, reducing costs, and supporting Australia’s transition to net-zero emissions.

With an estimated capacity to power approximately 480,000 homes for 2 hours, the Wallabadah BESS will play a significant role in stabilising the grid during the transition towards a fully renewable electricity grid.

Site Selection:
The site was chosen with a focus on minimising the impacts on the environment and the local community. Key advantages include:

  • Existing transmission infrastructure, reducing the need for extensive high-voltage cabling and visual impacts.
  • A relatively flat terrain, minimising construction disturbances.
  • Limited vegetation removal required.
  • Proximity to non-associated residential properties is over 1.5 km, ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Good access to the New England Highway.
